The negative wire of the connections is not a path unless the ecu closes the circuit by trying to fire the injector. When the ecu closes the circuit, the moisture could create another current path, directly between connections and this could cause corrosion. This would only occur when the ecu closes the circuit, and the re-wire would not stop it.
